River of Lights An Albuquerque Winter Tradition
The River of Lights is a family friendly and fun event that takes place during the winter season in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This winter season event takes place near the end of the month of November until December is over. This special event includes lights, electronic displays, festivities, and an exciting look into the marvelous world of Albuquerque’s winter season.
The River of Lights today has over thousands of lights, over 500 huge displays, and lots of festivities. This winter event was started in 1997. The New Mexico Bio Park Society hosts this event every year at the Albuquerque Bio Park Botanic Garden. Be sure to check the Albuquerque Bio Park website for news and event information too.
Location, Tickets, and Parking
The River of Lights is really called the River of Lights, because this winter event is located right next to the Rio Grande River and there are several thousand lights. The River of Lights is located at this address 2601 Central Ave. NW, 87104. This is the same exact location as the Albuquerque Bio Park! Be sure to arrive early to get tickets for this special, winter event. You can find tickets online or directly purchase them from the Albuquerque Bio Park.
You can find parking at the Albuquerque Bio Park lot for this winter event. Be sure to arrive early for a parking space. You can walk across the street or even take the city transportation to this great winter event.
Festivities and Entertainment
When you find a parking spot, you will notice the entrance to the Albuquerque Bio Park is decorated with magnificent creatures and shapes. Step into the Botanic Gardens area of the Albuquerque Bio Park and prepare for a fun evening of special shapes and surprises!
Decorations and lights are place throughout the Botanic Gardens. You can stroll by the fountain, walk near the pond, and visit the gardens for different lights that make special shapes. Every light display is different and not even one of them is ever the same. Make sure to explore the large area of the Bio Park to see every light display of the River of Lights.
Great festivities include a Holiday Nature Crafts inside the Albuquerque Bio Park Botanic Gardens during the River of Lights event. Come learn about arts and crafts on special evenings in December. The Garden Railroad exhibit hosts a special train decorated for this winter season, which runs on special days of the week. Also, the Rio Line Train becomes the magical, exciting Polar Bear Express which takes you around the River of Lights. Be sure to check on ticket information for the Polar Bear Express.
