Exciting News About Netflix In Albuquerque, New Mexico!

Netflix In Albuquerque

Netflix In Albuquerque NM

Update, the original article was published on 11/8/2018.  Exctitng news was recentley released by Netflix on 11/23/2020.

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos announced that the streaming giant plans to boost its presence in the state by expanding ABQ Studios.

The investment is estimated to bring 1,000 production jobs to New Mexico, as well as nearly 1,500 construction jobs.

Netflix is committing to an additional $1 billion in production spending and will add 300 acres to the existing space at ABQ Studios, making it “one of the largest high-tech and sustainable film production facilities in North America.”

“The expansion will bring many new high-tech and production jobs to the region. It allows us to be more nimble in executing our production plans while cementing the status of the region as one of the leading production centers in North America.” Sarandos said.

Netflix plans to add up to ten new stages, post-production services, production offices, mills, backlots, training facilities, wardrobe suites, a commissary to support meals and craft services, and other buildings to support productions. Netflix first purchased ABQ Studios two years ago.

The State of New Mexico will provide up to $17 million in LEDA funding and the City of Albuquerque will commit up to $3 million in local LEDA funding to the project. In addition, the City of Albuquerque will issue an Industrial Revenue Bond (IRB) to partially abate property and other tax over a 20-year term for the first $500 million investment by Netflix to build out the production facility. In addition to the private land acquisition, Netflix will also lease approximately 130 acres from the State Land Office. All funding is pending the approval of the Albuquerque Development Commission and the Albuquerque City Council.

Part of the proposed investment brings a focus on growing the crew base and talent pool, and Netflix has committed to provide training programs for below-the-line positions in partnership with the New Mexico Film Office, local universities, labor and industry organizations.

What is all the breaking news about Netflix and what does it all mean?

If you have Netflix, I am sure that you have seen a few titles, series, and their original movies lately. Here in Albuquerque, New Mexico there is a lot of talk about Netflix these days. Well the breaking news is that Netflix is in the process of acquiring the ABQ Studios in Mesa del Sol located in Bernalillo County. This is absolutely huge news for Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Netflix is looking to bring in over $1 billion to the local Albuquerque, County, and State economies. What’s more is that Netflix is bringing over 1,000 jobs to our local Albuquerque, New Mexico community. This is a very important time to learn more about how Netflix moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico will positively impact the economy, housing, and job growth.

Albuquerque Economy And Netflix!

Having to provide over 1,000 jobs will definitely jump start the local Albuquerque community, and most importantly the economy! This is incredible for Albuquerque, because we have never seen this amount of jobs from a corporation since the introduction of Intel to the city. Netflix is being stated as the “next Intel” of Albuquerque, meaning that we get to have jobs, a good workforce, and help build the film industry in the next few years to the next few decades. Once, a corporation lands in the Albuquerque and Rio Rancho area, usually we see a positive growth in overall economy.

The overall economy benefits by introducing more jobs, more families will relocate to the area, more schools being built, and the housing market begins to start up again. Once families settle down, more stores and shops are built, shaping the local economy and helping to bring in more jobs into the area.

The announcement of the Netflix deal and agreement between the corporation and the City of Albuquerque is already benefiting the local areas and communities. College students are excited, businesses are able to promote to the larger community that will be moving to Albuquerque and Rio Rancho areas, and Netflix will bring in the movie and tv show stars for their filming.

The jobs by Netflix covered a variety of areas. I know that Netflix purchased the studios lots and has acres to expand its production sets. Some production set jobs include filming, videography, lighting, and staging.
