Valencia County has a total area of 1,068 square miles of which 1,066 square miles is land and 2.1 square miles is water. It is also the second-smallest county in New Mexico by area, as it lost almost 81 percent of its territory on June 19, 1981, upon the creation of Cibola County. Adjacent counties to Valencia include Bernalillo County – north, Torrance County – east, Socorro County – south, and Cibola County – west.
Cities within Valencia County include Belen and Rio Communities. Peralta is the only town in the county. Villages include Bosque Farms and Los Lunas. Census-designated places include Casa Colorada, Duran, El Cerro-Monterey Park, Jarales, Los Chavez, Los Trujillos-Gabaldon, Meadow Lake, Rio Communities North, Tome-Adelino, and Valencia. Unincorporated communities include Bosque and Tome-Adelino.
County parks include River Park, Cypress Estates Park, and Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.

Valencia County Economy
Facebook has a huge facility on state highway 6 just west of I-25. “Currently our Los Lunas Data Center is six buildings, each about 30 data halls, and with today’s announcement we’re going to eight buildings,” said Community Development Manager David Williams.
The expansion puts the center just under 3.8 million square feet and brings Facebook’s total investment into the Los Lunas Data Center to $2.2 billion. That means more high-paying jobs, with benefits, will soon be available.
Amazon announced it will create an estimated 600 jobs at its new 1 million-square-foot “fulfillment center,” creating an estimated 600 jobs.
The huge warehouse is scheduled to open in 2023. Amazon will store, pack and ship items at this warehouse. This facility will be the second fulfillment center in the Albuquerque area. Los Lunas Mayor Charles Griego said the planned fulfillment center will be “transformative,” injecting an estimated $300 million into the economy of the community south of Albuquerque, which has a population of about 15,000.
