4 Fall Activities To Do With Your Family This Month

Fall foliage in Albuquerque

Fall in the Land of Enchantment is unmistakably beautiful. The leaves are changing, the temperatures are dropping, and the holiday season is just a stone’s throw away. With the rich history and culture of the Albuquerque area, there’s so much to do and see at this time of year.

Find fall activities to do and local events in Albuquerque this November.

Go Outside

If you haven’t had a chance to take a look at the fall foliage, it’s prime time to go before all the leaves fall! Even with our wet summer, the colors of the leaves will still be beautiful during this season. What better way to experience fall than taking a drive through the city, seeing the range of colors on the mountains, and getting some fresh air? These fall activities in Albuquerque are free, too!

There are a few places to keep on your radar if you’re fall foliage hunting. Thanks to New Mexico’s mountain ranges, there are a handful of places you’ll get great scenic views from. The Turquoise Trail Scenic Byway is a perfect example of one leaf-peeping location. Another option is to take the Jemez Mountain Trail Byway.

The ABQ BioPark has a beautiful Japanese Garden, complete with fall foliage too. Albuquerque is busting at the seams with open spaces, gardens, and parks you can investigate. The University of New Mexico Duck Pond is also a great place to bring the kids.

Even if fall foliage hunting isn’t your top to-do, there are a lot of other activities to do in Albuquerque this November.

Celebrate Turkey Time

This time of year is unique in the Southwest. Thanksgiving in Albuquerque is celebrated with fusion cuisine, festivals, free holiday events, and of course: turkey.

Take some time off from slaving in the kitchen to try one of Albuquerque’s turkey runs! The 17th Annual Turkey Trek will be hosted on November 23rd. On November 24th, you can head to Kit Park for the annual Albuquerque Thanksgiving day 5k Run.

If you aren’t up for hosting or cooking a holiday meal yourself, don’t worry.  Let someone else do the cooking!

You’re covered with a variety of options. Locals love the fusion cuisine at Pueblo Harvest Cafe which is inside the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. If you’re looking for a more traditional Turkey Day Feast, try the Corn Maiden at the Tamaya Hyatt Resort.

Visit Art Shows and Craft Fairs

Holiday fairs and fall festivals are wonderful for weekend outings.

Albuquerque has several art shows, craft fairs, and arts and crafts events throughout the holiday season. The 22nd Annual Holly Days Craft Fair starts November 4th, from 9AM-3PM. With over 80 vendors, crafts, food, games, and prizes, the whole family will find something to smile about.

These little craft and art fairs are the perfect places to find handmade gifts for the upcoming holiday season. The Balloon Museum also puts on a holiday art, craft, and book fair during November. On November 12th from 9AM-5PM, you can begin your holiday shopping by stopping by the 4th Annual Holiday Event. Don’t worry, Santa Claus and Santa Paws will be there, too! This uniquely “New Mexican” venue will get you in the holiday spirit.

Get a head start on your holiday shopping at Rio Grande’s Arts & Crafts Festival Holiday Show on the busiest shopping weekend of the year! See the holiday spirit New Mexico style at the Expo New Mexico on November 25th.

Get in the Holiday Spirit

Albuquerque has gained some fame from her magical Twinkle Light Parade. Last year, the annual Twinkle Light Parade was named #2 Best Holiday Parade in the Country, according to USA Today 10Best!

The Twinkle Light Parade isn’t the only holiday stroll to get you in the spirit, though. The River of Lights is a stunning display of over 150 dazzling light displays including animal structures! You can stroll through this holiday event throughout the fall, beginning November 25th at the ABQ BioPark. Don’t miss New Mexico’s biggest walk-through holiday stroll!
