The New Mexico State Fair One of New Mexico’s Best Events!
Albuquerque is the home to over 300 days of sunshine and cool evening temperatures year around. The best part of Albuquerque is the location. Located in the high desert of the southwest, Albuquerque is one of the major cities in New Mexico and is home to many events and traditions around the year.
One of my favorite events that take place yearly is the New Mexico State Fair! This event is held in the month of October and takes place for a little over a week. This gives you more than enough time to take your family and friends to the fair, watch live music performances, try local foods, and to enjoy the atmosphere of a carnival.
Other great Albuquerque events that take place around the year include the city music summer fests, the Nob Hill District Twinkle Light Parade, and the other performances held at different Albuquerque concert venues and concert halls. New Mexico State Fair
The NM State Fair is located in the heart of the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The New Mexico State Fair Grounds are right next to The Downs Casino and Racetrack. The Downs Casino includes night life, regular casino machines, and live music. The area near the State Fair is called the International District, where you can find great foods and entertainment. Also, the Nob Hill District is a mile west of the State Fair Grounds too!

This is a large open area and Tingley Coliseum, one of Albuquerque’s largest music arenas is conveniently located on the grounds next to the New Mexico State Fair. Tingley Coliseum is the host for the major New Mexico State Fair live performances, music concerts, and rodeo shows! Be sure to check the music schedule and rodeo shows. Sometimes, there will be a rodeo show in the early evening; then a live band will play right after. You will only need to purchase a ticket, which is good enough for both shows on the same evening.
Another great fact about Tingley Coliseum is that it is located right next to the major eastern parking entrance of the New Mexico State Fair Grounds. You can park and walk right up to the venue and see your show, if you have somewhere to be before. If not, the State Fair activities and events provide enough entertainment throughout the entire day right up to the main event show.
A Day at the State Fair
One time in particular, I had arrived at the New Mexico State Fair Grounds at 3 p.m. on a Thursday. Next, the daily activities in the large halls provide you information about local business and projects going on in the Albuquerque area. At 6 p.m. I ordered a meal from the BBQ stand with refreshing lemonade. I met my friends by the small entertainment tent next to the food stands area. We sat down and watched a live karaoke performance and open mic. At 7 p.m. we moved to Tingley Coliseum and watched the main event shows. It was definitely worth a visit and a fun day with family and friends.
Other great ways to really enjoy the New Mexico State Fair include waking up at 9 a.m. and arriving to the front gates at 11 a.m. You can walk up to the themed day booths, usually on Wednesday, and there will be a theme such as environmental science. You can meet local environmental science groups and organizations; they provide booths activities that feature information about involvement, ongoing local community projects, and free prizes.
Themed days at the New Mexico State Fair are usually on Monday through Friday. Themed days are really special, because the booths and activities highlight the major theme of the day. The themed day booths are located outside on the main path of the New Mexico State Fair and inside the large buildings too. be sure to check online for the themed day events and activities.
A great fun fact about the themed days at the New Mexico State Fair includes that some of the morning and themed day entries includes discounted ticket prices. That’s right! Some special themed-days feature entrance tickets into the New Mexico State Fair for only $2 dollars! Also, military and veterans gain a special low discounted ticket price to the Military and Veteran Appreciation Day at the New Mexico State Fair.
Come visit the New Mexico State Fair on a themed-day! One time I arrived on a Wednesday morning, I participated in some of the activity booths that featured environmental science, they gave me information about Albuquerque Museums, Albuquerque organizations that provide educational activities, and prizes too. I really enjoy the themed-days at the New Mexico State Fair, because the groups and organizations that are hosting the booths are local to the Albuquerque area and it is great to see the support they bring to the New Mexico State Fair.
The New Mexico State Fair happens during the month of September. The entire event is spectacular and is a must see and attend event. Attend a day or two and have a great time with family and friends. Fun Activities
The New Mexico State Fair has many fun activities! There are many music concerts, rodeo shows, activity booths, and information booths. Next, do not miss out on the great food and carnival. The food includes turkey legs, corn on the cob, and other great foods. There are BBQ stands, dessert stands, and hot dog stands. There are different choices at the food stands for the entire family! A great fun fact about the food stands is that you can buy a cup of lemonade, and continue to receive a fresh cup of lemonade with that cup on the same day. Make sure to be on the lookout for special low priced foods and special discounts on foods too!

The activity and information booths include organizations and local businesses all over from the State of New Mexico. Check out each booth, some have children activities. Some offer volunteer work opportunities and information on how to gain involvement.
The carnival is one of the main event attractions of the New Mexico State Fair. Do not miss the exciting carnival roller coaster rides, cotton candy, and games to test your skills. Each ride is fun and each NM State Fair includes a Ferris Wheel for a great view of the Albuquerque area. The carnival rides operate throughout the morning to the evening. You can ride a few rides and take a break to look at the ongoing events at the New Mexico State Fair.
One time I enjoyed the rides and wanted to watch a special live performance near the activities area. Usually, the week days feature live shows by music bands. On the weekends, you can find contests to enter, and walk around the activities areas for food items.
More great, exciting activities at the New Mexico State Fair include viewing the live animals such as goats, pigs, and chickens. Also, there are the cultural venues that offer Native and New Mexican foods.
Shows At The State Fair
The New Mexico State Fair features a concert series during evenings. There are rodeo shows that take place right before the music concert begins. The rodeo shows feature great talent and rodeo skills.
There are incredible, well-known bands that perform in the Tingley Coliseum. You can see them in the evening, after a great day the New Mexico State Fair. The music concerts include diverse music genres such as rock, country, pop, and many others. Some of the live music performance take place after the rodeo shows.
There are other music concerts outside of the Tingley Coliseum too. The smaller stage is located in a large tent next to the food stands and food booths. The smaller stage includes different local music bands each day, and some performances will allow the crowd to join in and perform live karaoke.
