Wildlife On Valle De Oro
Wildlife on the Valle de Oro includes the Sandhill Cranes, both lesser and greater, which appear during the cool months of October through March. These are migratory birds and are of large size. You can easily see these beautiful birds during the early morning hours and in the later afternoon hours too.
Some other birds include roadrunners and woodpeckers, which fly across the Valle de Oro landscape and continue through the Bosque. A fun fact about the roadrunners is that they are abundant in the Albuquerque area. Also, they are the state bird too! You can certainly take a day hike or trip in the surrounding lands of Albuquerque, and you might just spot one of these beautiful birds that run fast and jump really high.
Next, Coyotes constantly roam the wildlife refuge all seasons of the year. You may find yourself walking on a breezy summer day and see a few coyotes walking around. Right inside the Bosque and Rio Grande land areas, make sure to walk over to the shoreline of the river and take a glimpse into small water life. They are frogs the size of a U.S. quarter and colorful dragon flies too.

Valle De Oro Events
Valle de Oro offers many great, fun, free, and family friendly events throughout the entire year. The main focus of these events are on the environment, however some events take place all over the Albuquerque area and focus on community and social gatherings too. Be sure to look online and at their website for current and new information about their monthly and yearly events. There are always new events published and created. Each event is unique and very enjoyable to attend. There is an annual gala; where you are served dinner and you can dance the entire evening. There are events where you can buy art works and meet the local Albuquerque artists.
