10 Amazing Albuquerque Neighborhoods You Should Check Out

Thinking of buying a home in Albuquerque? Make sure you check out these 10 amazing Albuquerque neighborhoods on your search to find a perfect home.

When thinking of new areas of the United States to move to, Albuquerque, New Mexico may not be the first destination on your list, but it’s definitely one worth checking out! Albuquerque is an affordable place to live that provides a perfect mix of city life and a more laid-back way of living.

It sits at the corner of two major highways in New Mexico, yet most places in the city are within 20-minute commutes of one another. It’s a great place to raise a family and ranks among the top 100 places in the states to retire.

Whatever your reason for coming here, though, you should familiarize yourself with Albuquerque neighborhoods before you pack up and move. Here are ten of the top places in Albuquerque to consider buying a house in.

1. Sandia Heights

Sandia Heights is the place to buy if you want to live near the base of the Sandia Mountains. The neighborhood rests on the outer edges of town, away from all the buzz of daily work commutes and people passing through.  Most of the homes are located east of Tramway and the base of the Sandia Mountains

Homes out here are breathtakingly large and absolutely incredible. Most of them have many rooms to host all your friends and family when they come to visit, plus amazing views of Albuquerque and the Sandia Mountains. There are fantastic trails to hike up the mountains and the Sandia Peak Tramway base is located in Sandia Heights.  It is common to see lots of wildlife like, rabbits, quail, roadrunners, coyotes, bob cats, deer, and an occasional bear.

2. Northeast Heights

Northeast Heights is in between the Sandia Heights area and the center of town. Also, the Sandia Mountains lies east of the NE Heights.  Many homes in Northeast Heights have spectacular mountain views.

The Sandia Mountains are great place to go hiking during the summer or do some snow sports in the winter, and the sunsets from this point are lovely all year round. Homes range from modest living spaces to lavish million-dollar spaces..

3. Tanoan Country Club

If the thought of country club living catche your eye, check out the Tanoan Country Club, too. Living inside of a country club is a way of life like no other.

You have all the golfing you could want right at in your backyard, a safe place to raise your kids, and a go-to restaurant on the nights you don’t want to cook. The entire community is gated and access is controlled.  By the way, this golf course has 27 holes as opposed to a standard 18!

You’ll never get tired of spending your Saturdays on this range, and there are many home designs and setups to choose from. Each house here is custom built to be your own unique slice of paradise.

There is also a large community swimming pool and tennis courts.

4. Four Hills Country Club

Country club living is not just available in Tanoan, but also in Four Hills. This option is located in southeast Albuquerque, close to the Kirtland Airforce Base and Cibola National Forest.

The homes range from luxury large homes to townhouses and everything in between. Whatever you choose, though, the 18-hole golf course, the pool and tennis courts, and the dining are all available to you.

5. North Albuquerque Acres

North Albuquerque Acres used to be a land grant among upscale neighborhoods in Albuquerque. Today, NAA is ideal for families who have children attending La Cueva High School.

The neighborhood is safe, quiet, and absolutely peaceful. It feels kind of like you’re living in a small town, but with big city attractions and events right around the corner from your backyard.

Many of the homes are built on .89 and .75 acre lots.  Most homes on these larger lots are served by a well and septic tanks.

6. High Desert

High Desert is one of Albuquerque New Mexico’s premier neighborhoods.  High Desert is located east of Tramway Boulevard and the Sandia Mountains.  There are spectacular city and mountain views from many of the homes here. Some larger custom homes are priced above $1,000,000.

Some of your neighbors will be rabbits, quail, roadrunners, coyotes, deer, bobcats, and ocasional bear.

Other perks of living in High Desert include having the option of 23 subdivisions to look for homes in, being in close proximity to the University of New Mexico, and the lovely landscaping all around.

7. UNM

You can choose to plant your roots close to the University of New Mexico or be right in the middle of all the action. This is a great location to be if you or your spouse are planning to work at or attend the university.

UNM homes also have a unique bit of charm you won’t find elsewhere in Albuquerque. While most Albuquerque suburbs and nice homes are new and custom-built, the UNM area is home to older buildings that have been refurbished and touched up to fit modern trends. They are the perfect mix of old and new, and very desirable for newlyweds or small families.

8. Nob Hill

Nob Hill is another great area to check out if you want to be located near the University of New Mexico. Most of the homes here are smaller and older homes.  Many of these homes have been remodeled and are very modern.

There are many nice restaurants and bar with much night life.  Many homes are a short distance to the historic route 66.  There is so much to see on old route 66.

The homes are beautifully designed and there are a few apartment buildings worth taking a look at in Nob Hill, too.  There are also several newer condominiums located in Nob Hill.

9. Ventana Ranch

Maybe your children’s biggest interest is the great outdoors and yours is, too. If so, look no further than Ventana Ranch.  Ventana is a master planned community located on Albuquerque’s fast growing west side.

This area is home to a collective 15-mile range of walking and jogging, all offering some great views of Albuquerque. The location is a little further on the outside of town, but well worth commutes into the city for such a great life connected to nature.

10. Downtown

When in doubt, head to downtown! Downtown Albuquerque truly provides the best of both worlds. You get the excitement and surroundings of being in a big city, yet with a local, down-home type of feel to everything.

There are many things to do near the downtown Albuquerque.  There are museums, restaurants, Albuquerque Botanical Gardens, Old Town, restaurants, bars, night life, and several newer condominiums.
