Bachechi Open Space
Albuquerque is home to Bachechi Open Space. Bachechi Open Space is located within Bernalillo County and is found at 9521 Rio Grande Blvd NW right by the Rio Grande River. This large Open Space is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. The wildlife is present here throughout all four seasons of the New Mexico weather.
Bachechi Open Space is about 27 acres of green, lush Open Space land. There are opportunities for hiking, walking, and becoming educated on the wildlife here at Bachechi Open Space. Bachechi Open Space is free and public. The parking allows for you and your family to stop by on a Saturday afternoon and to take a walk around the property.
Plants and Animals
Plants of Bachechi Open Space include trees such as the Salt Cedars, Russian Olives, and Cottonwoods. The plant diversity allows for the wildlife such as geese, frogs, and mammals to have a home here at Bachechi Open Space. Be sure to look carefully and closely around the Bachechi Open Space for the plants and wildlife.
The fall season is great, because the leaves are different colors and shades of red and gold. Migratory birds can be seen during the fall season too. Be sure to check out Bachechi Open Space during different times of the day and during the year to really see the birds and wildlife roam this beautiful property and land.
Land
Bachechi Open Space allows for walking long and short distances. Some trails lead up to the Bosque area and Rio Grande River. These areas and trails of Bachechi Open Space are very exciting and fun. There are safe trails for you to enjoy an early morning run. The parking lot allows access for you to easily park and walk along the man-made boardwalk in the evening after work.
On the boardwalk, be sure to take a look at the geese and turtles. Upon reaching the south end of the boardwalk, is a place of fliers and a classroom building. Check the Bachechi Open Space website for current and updated information.
Activities and Events
There are great activities, events, and programs at Bachechi Open Space. Bachechi Open Space continually hosts programs throughout the entire year for all ages. These events and activities allow for you to participate in active learning about the plants and animals of the Open Space. Some events include open forums, where you can meet local Albuquerque organizations and discuss current environmental events.
Some events include walking and touring the Bachechi Open Space. There are events for children to learn from educators, who present topics related to the STEM fields of education. Be sure to check out the Bachechi Open Space online information for great children activities and events. There are programs relating to geology such as the layers of rocks, and biology with animal tracking.
Some adult programs include the Bernalillo County Master Naturalist program, which is about learning the environment along the Rio Grande and Sandia Mountains. The Master Naturalist program is hosted by the Bernalillo County and takes place at the classroom building here at Bachechi Open Space. This program allows for you to meet scientists and learn about nature right inside the Bachechi Open Space Classroom.
